It’s the start of another month, which means yet another review of another month of comping! For those of you that are new to the blog I’m a comper. You can read more about my comping and why I do it here. But the short story is that after having to quit work due to keep up with my sons additional needs I needed to find something that meant we could still afford the nicer things in life!
Another Successful Month of Comping
This month has been a bit nuts. The 6 weeks school holidays means my usual routine is all thrown up in the air. Combine that with winning an amazing epic prize that will be taking up some of my free time, means that I haven’t been comping as much as I would like. I’ve still had some amazing wins though with some really nice wins from effort and judged competitions so let’s get stuck in with this months prizes and how I won them.
A Power Bank
An effort creative competition I found using Tweetdeck. The competition was ran by Camping in the forest on Twitter. They wanted to see pictures of you in the forest releasing your inner child! There were two hashtags you had to mention but I think I was one of the few people the week I entered who had used both.
I didn’t win 1st prize (a GoPro) but did get a very nice power bank as a runners-up prize instead.
Nike Pitch Ball
Chase won this from a magazine competition entry (email) in Match of the Day magazine
Wheels Whizz Board Book
A RT to win competition ran by Mumsnet books on Twitter. I thought I would just be receiving one book, so was pleasantly surprised when not one but 6 books arrived!
Product of the year goody bag
I have been trying to win one of these bad boys since I started comping! I won mine with the product of the year Facebook page. Not only did it come with over £180 worth of contents but also a really fab sturdy bag. There was a huge number of vouchers included as they didn’t want to send perishable things through the post. This was a like and comment competition.
Xbox One Lego City Undercover Game
As we are a gaming family winning games is always awesome. Even more awesome when it’s a game suitable for the whole family and the name of the main protagonist is the same as your eldest child! Chase was super pleased to get this game and see that the main character had the same name as him! I won this thanks to Bargain Games who had just launched their Instagram account. But I have to extend my thanks to Neill of Golden luck muscle fame for being the one to tag me in the competition post in the first place!
North Face Walking Shoes
I won these ace shoes thanks to Push Doctor on Twitter with a simple RT to win competition. I’ve won with them before actually back in December last year. This was the first time I’d entered one of their competitions on twitter since I last won with them. Lightening does indeed strike in the same place twice!
Leopard at the Door Book
Books are always a great prize to receive. I won this as part of National Book day. I entered several competitions and won this one from Kuoni Travels on Twitter. This was quite low entry and the competition was running for one day only. I found this by searching for “#Nationalbookday win”. If you know it’s a special day on twitter it;s always worth looking to see if there are competitions running alongside it.
Micky Mouse Car Toy
UKMumstv on twitter run several great twitter parties every month. I have notifications turned on for them on twitter to make sure I don’t miss any of them. I was actually out shopping and was checking my messages when i saw they had a twitter party running so just quickly RTd the last competition post they had up. About a minute later I had a message saying I was the winner! I’ve won before with UKMumstv twitter parties and I have to note that of all the times I have won it has been towards the end of the competition time. SO if they say the competition is on for 5 minutes I recommend entering in the last-minute of the competition.
Cars 3 Backpack
A fab little like and comment competition from Sambro on their Facebook page. This is going to be Chases new school bag this year!
A massive tech bundle worth £1240
Remember last month I said I was shortlisted for a competition? Well I was amazed that I was then selected as the winner! Because this prize is more than just the actual prize (part of it is something money can’t buy) and because I have to take part in a winners story I’m not able to give full details yet. But I can show you the awesome bits of tech that I’ve received so far. I’ve already completed one day of filming for this prize and have another day of filming to go. Once the winners story has been filmed and gone through production it’s going to be shown across the promoters social media channels and on their website as well I believe. As soon as I can share more details then I will do. I’ll most likely post on my Facebook page when the videos are live so please like or follow my Facebook page here
A Zip Up Bed
This fab little zip up bed was won on Twitter from the Futon company. A really simple RT to win.
Thorpe Park Family Ticket
Not strictly a win as I didn’t receive this as part of a competition prize. More of a freebie from Families UK in exchange for a review of Thorpe Park. As we have 7 of us days out to theme parks are ridiculously expensive. Having a family ticket meant we ended up only paying £29.99 for one extra ticket to get us all into the park!
£500 worth of books of my choice from The Book People
WOW! This is my second bloggers only competition that I’ve received as a prize now. The Book People and Tots 100 were running a competition (open to all) to win £500 worth of books. You could also enter a separate competition as a blogger to also win £500 worth of books. I decided to enter via the blogger route as I knew it would be lower entry. To enter you had to write a blog post with your own instructions for a Noddy themed craft project. I was the first to enter with this post and didn’t hold out much hope as I saw the other bloggers posts come in as they were all so amazing!
I hadn’t heard anything for a while so I had a comping friend tweet to ask who the winner was. The next day I had a link back to my blog post from Tots 100 saying I was the winner! As I hadn’t heard anything I decided to contact Tots 100. It seems that I’d been picked as the winner a while ago but the email had either been forgotten to send out or I’d missed it. It was quickly resolved and within a few days I had my choice of £500 worth of books!
Smurf Merchandise Bag
A nice little RT to win goody bag from Animals and You magazine on Twitter
Minnie Mouse Plush Toy
There was a fab competition ran by Attraction Tix to win a VIP holiday for a group of 4 to DIsneyland Paris. We were not lucky enough to win but we did nab a runners-up prize of our choice of plush. I thought this was a really awesome gesture from Attraction Tix as there were no runners-up prizes initially. You can see our entry here (let me just apologise right now for the singing. Stick with the video though the bit after the singing is worth it!)
A massive congratulations to my comping friend Elyssia though who did win this competition! I hope she has a fab time at Disneyland, you can see her entry here.
Stamptastic Name Set x 4
This was such a handy win from Stampstastic on Facebook. I won a set of four personalised stamps, ink pads and white fabric pens for me and my three friends I tagged on this competition. To enter you had to like, comment, tag 3 friends and also say you were going to the Stapmtastic event. Sounds like a lot but was quick to do and very worth it. These four sets were worth over £100! It took me seconds to label Chases’s new school uniform this year. They’ve run a few more competitions since the first that I won so if you’re after a set it might be worth liking the page.
Milykbar Hamper and £50 love to shop voucher
Another judged effort competition we entered over the summer! This competition was ran by the Mail in conjunction with Nestle Milkybar. They asked you to make your own homemade toys with things from around the house. Chase and I made our own boat and named it the S.S Milkybar. I have to say I;m amazed we won. This was not our finest attempt at crafting. Whilst Chase was building his boat his baby sister was trying to destroy it. When she finally went off to sleep his other younger sister then decided she wanted to “help”. There were 10 prizes up for grabs though so I’m left wondering if it was just very low entry or if people failed to read the terms and conditions which stated your child had to be over 6 and both you and your child must be in the photo that you submitted!
I found this competition thanks to Di Cokes summer round-up of creative competitions. There are still some running so go check them out and get entering!
Groovy Food Company Cooking Hamper
A really generous competition on Instagram ran by the Groovy Food Company. You had to share a picture of your kids baking and tag them with their competition hashtag.
Eden Project Family tIcket
I can’t wait to take a family holiday to Cornwall to use this! This was on Twitter thanks to Visit Cornwall on Twitter. It was a RT to win. We visited Cornwall last year as part of a holiday we won and cannot wait to return again.
A new pair of shoes
Whats better than winning a prize in a competition you enter? Winning a prize in a competition you didn’t enter! Thanks to my comping friend Emma for this prize. Emma tagged me on a competition post on Instagram ran by Blue Vanilla. The winner and the person they tagged both got to pick a brand new pair of shoes. Emma won so by default I also received a pair of shoes of my choice. Thanks Emma!
Pure DAB Radio
I’ve been trying to win a DAB radio for a while now. We don’t even own a radio and I rely on the tv or apps to listen. I won this with UCB Media in a RT to win competition on Twitter.
Not just any fish slice. THE fish slice. The stuff of comping legends. It’s a well-known prize among the comping community and it should be lorded about as a badge of your comping prowess. I was almost as excited to win this as my £500 worth of books. Not quite, but almost. To win one of these head over to Fish is the Dish on Twitter and enter their #FishSliceTuesday competition.
Not just any apple slicer. The apple slicer. The day after my fish slice arrived I then found out I had won the iconic Jazz apple slicer (almost as famous as the fish slice). My comping game is lit AF right now. If you want to win one head over to Jazz apples on Twitter and look for their regular competitions.
Bronnley Rollerball Perfume x 2
On the last day of the month I was lucky enough to win another 2 prizes. The first was a duo of Bronnley rollerball perfumes on Twitter. (RT to win)
Ben 10 Omnitrix watch
My last win of the month was thanks to another UKMumsTV twitter party. Once again it was only because I had notification turned on and I spotted a “quick our competition ends in 1 minute” tweet that I opened the app and quickly RTd the competition tweet. I didn’t check my phone back until a few hours later and found out that I was the winner. Once again reinforcing to me that you’re more likely to win these if you tweet in the closing part of the competition.
Well that’s it! Considering I haven’t comped as much as I wanted I’ve had an amazing month. I am particularly chuffed with the number of judged and effort competitions that we’ve won a prize from. This just goes to show how putting in that little bit of extra effort and checking the terms and conditions can have a massive impact on your winning.
This month I’d love to share Cara’s blog the Jammy Jigsaw with you. Cara wrote an excellent post about small but iconic prizes, I managed to finish her list with my Jazz Apple slicer and Fish slice this month. Make sure you check out her blog if you have the time.
