The Toiletries Challenge!

One of my goals for 2017 was to try and spend more time doing things just for me, I thought I’d start off easy by taking something I currently deem as necessary and then making it a bit less functional and more about me

I’ve opted to attempt to have my baths on my own, as much as I love having one of my children laughing and pointing at me naked screaming ‘Look at your boobies Mummy, LOOOOK!’ or pointing out my C section scar before bringing in her own doll into the bathroom and pretending to cut herself open and give birth to her own doll by section whilst laughing hysterically; I have to say I feel somewhat more relaxed when I don’t have an audience.

So nice and easy – and I’ve even got loads of products to use to look after myself!

Ok well maybe I’ve got too many products and this is just toiletries, in fact my bathroom and bedroom is overflowing with all sorts of bathroom toiletries and skincare from full size products to trial samples (courtesy of my Look Fantastic monthly box), I could open up shop and give Superdrug a run for their money

So onto my challenge, as it stands I’ve got way too much cluttering up the place, and it’s all well and good having all these lovely toiletries and skincare but they don’t do anything unless you actually use them.

THE TOILETRIES CHALLENGE

This year I shall not be buying anymore toiletries until I run out of something, i.e. No shower gel means I can go to the shops and buy some, no moisturiser means I can look for more -BUT I’m going to do those on a budget which means budget brands, sales or if I’m lucky review them for companys, infact I’m going to attempt to keep my toiletry and skincare spending down to just £20 for the whole year -eek! I’ve decided this won’t include SPF (skin cancer isn’t money saving) and if my children need specific fragrance free toiletries this will be omitted (but I won’t be using it!)

I’ll be making a list tomorrow of all my current toiletries and skincare swag and will be updating monthly with what I’ve used and what I’ve spent!

Is anyone else feeling inspired to clean out their bathroom cupboards and take on the challenge?

I’m doing this too, had a look after xmas and I’ve got about 15 body scrubs and even more shower gels! It really is shocking what I have accumulated.

I had a big turf out before Christmas and came up with a whole bin bag full of toiletries! So I am doing the challenge, although I don’t have any face creams in the stash!

I’m also low on face creams and shaving gel – although I’ve heard you can use conditioner in place but I think it might result in shaving burn!

Funny u should blog this. I bought a new bathroom unit over the holidays which obv meant I had to clear out my old. Oh my life. I have so many bottles of stuff I have no clue what to do with it all. I was actually thinking of taking it all into work and charging the staff 50p per item and donating the monies to charity lol

I love that idea for the stuff you’re not going to use! If I have any I think won’t be used for sure I’ll be sending them to the school fete!

I think that’s relevant for all the toiletries we save for a special occasion (same for clothes) so I am trying to use and wear all those ‘treat’ items NOW. We never know if we might not get a chance to use them.

I took this challenge a few years ago and saved so much money! It did result in a month of me looking slightly too orange in the wrong shade of foundation though, haha 🙂
