Joining The Galactic Academy

As both fans of Star Wars and ComicCon it’s also only natural that as a family we’re also fans of cosplay.  Husband is at the start of a project to build his own Storm trooper armour that he can wear to ComicCons and with the long-term aim of joining the 501st legion.  In case you don’t know what the 501st is

The 501st Legion is an international fan-based organization dedicated to the construction and wearing of screen-accurate replicas of Imperial Stormtrooper armor, Sith Lords, Clone Troopers…and so on

But enough of this fun for the adults (seriously though husband’s full build of his Stormtrooper outfit will eventually be getting its own blog post), what if you have kids who love to dress up in Star Wars costumes?

In steps The Galactic Academy.  This fan run costume organisation and fan club for kids allows you Star Wars mad kids to join in the Star Wars costume fun.  For ages from 0 to 17 it’s free to join and all you need to join is a picture of your child in their Star Wars costume!  My 4-year-old Brooke loves Darth Vader and frequently dresses up as him for ComicCon – making sure she has her baby Stormtrooper with her too!

The Galactic Academy is split into Imperial and Rebel forces each consisting of three companies based on the age of the cadet.  Being such a huge fan of Darth Vader (and Dad being a Stormtrooper and all) means that Brooke has joined the Imperial Cadet Academy in the Shell Shocker company.  Here’s her picture we submitted to join ( well it was Christmas after all!)

Upon joining you get an awesome certificate to print off.  Brooke’s will be framed to go up when we redecorate all of the bedrooms later this year.

What about the other rebels in the household?

Well I’m not sure we have other rebels in the household.  Chase will be the next to join and he currently dresses as Poe Dameron in his X-Wing Fighter suit.

Husband and I are still deliberating what to get Harper to wear but I think it would be delightful to see the smallest member of the family as one of the tallest Star Wars characters – Chewbacca!  I have no idea if a toddlers fluffy Chewbacca costume exists.  I figure I could always find a way to make one myself if it doesn’t though!

Do you have mini Star Wars fans in your household, will they be joining The Galactic Academy?
