How To Find Competitions Closing Soon On Twitter

How To Find Competitions Closing Soon On Twitter

Twitter is one of my favourite platforms for finding quick and easy competitions to enter.  There are a huge amount of RT to win competitions.  However, on a straight up RT to win it’s quite hard for a promoter to pick a winner by completely random.  This is down to the way the twitter algorithm works.  You can read more details about this on Di Coke’s Super Lucky blog

So whilst this can be a major disadvantage there is a way to use this to your advantage.  I’ve found time and time again the more competitions I enter closer to the closing date on Twitter the more likely I am to have a win.  As such I always try to enter RT to win competitions on the date they are closing or the day before.

How to Find competitions ending Soon

I’ve previously written a guide on how to find low entry competitions and hints and tips on what you could look for.  In this guide I am going to tell you exactly what I type in to find competitions that are ending soon.

For doing these searches I prefer to use my phone or the desktop (as opposed to Tweetdeck).  I also tend to look mainly at the Top results instead of clicking on to the ‘Latest Tab’

What to type into your search Bar

It only takes a few minutes to type this in scroll through and quickly find competitions to enter.  I then move on to the next search in my list and just go down until I’ve searched all these terms.

First up is searching by date.  Today is the 23rd of February so I would type the following in

  • 23/2 win
  • 23/02 win
  • 23rd feb win

Twitter will display results for dates in the 23/2 format as well as those with the 23.2 format, so there is no need to search those separately.  You do however need to do separate searches for 23/2 and 23/02 as Twitter will show different results each time.

Time of Day

These results return less competitions but I tend to check it as it’s quick and it’s possible to find some good low entry competitions too

  • midnight win
  • tonight win
  • afternoon win

This will tend to bring up competitions that haven’t had an end date written in the tweet but are closing tonight or closing at midnight etc

So the last search I like to do usually about midday is actually by time.  These can be checked at any time quickly throughout the day (especially useful for flash competitions)

  • 2pm win
  • 3pm win
  • 4pm win
  • 5pm win
  • 6pm win

You could of course search as many times as you want.  unfortunately using the search *pm win doesn’t work to display all results and I’ve found it better searching by individual times.  The times I have listed are the most common times flash competitions tend to be listed as ending.

Other Tips

It’s worth mentioning that when you enter a RT to win competition, don’t just RT it.  Reply to the tweet as well, or entering close to the closing date will get you nowhere, again you have the Twitter algorithm to thank for this!

Do you have any other ways to find competitions closing soon on Twitter?  Are you going to give these searches a try? I’d love to hear in the comments below!

Can’t believe I never thought to search for time before – nice one!

I’ve also wondered whether it’s possible to use something like Hootsuite to schedule RTs, but I’ve never had the time to explore properly – Have you tried?

    Thanks for the awesome tips!

No I haven’t, apparently it is possible though! I wonder though if it will say if via hoot suite etc and if that would have any bearing on you being selected as a winner? Wondering if the twitter algorithm ranks tweets (including RTs) made by automation services lower than others?

This is some great advice. I like twitter competitions but maybe I’m entering them too early.

When I come across any competition on Twitter that I like I save it in bookmarks and then go through that every day and RT the ones that are due the next day. I also usually search end or closes followed by date and win.

Love bookmarks! They weren’t around when I originally wrote this post, might be time for me to update it. Entering closet to closing date increases your chance of winning for sure!
