An Adventurous Day with Yellow Zebra Safaris

An Adventurous Day with Yellow Zebra Safaris

We were thrilled to be invited along to an amazing adventurous special event hosted by Yellow Zebra Safaris in London this weekend.  Yellow Zebra Safaris are Europe’s Leading Safari Tour Operator, but what’s more is they also specialise in providing Family Safari Holidays.  Brooke adores animals and was beyond excited to be attending, knowing there was going to be some very special furry (and not so furry!) guests to meet at our Safari themed day.

Upon arrival to the event Brooke and I were greeted by a very friendly Safari Pete! Safari Pete was to be our animal entertainment for the first part of our special day.  The room looked amazing with safari balloons and some truly well presented safari themed tables.

Discovering The Animals

Safari Pete was a joy to watch and myself and Brooke were captivated.  To begin with Safari Pete took us on a hunt around the room as we had discovered Pete had placed some animals around the venue.  We managed to track down a Tree Frog and a Snake!

We were then introduced to a whole plethora of interesting and unique animals.  These included a Scorpion, a rather splendid looking Barn Owl, Bearded Dragons Doogie and Poogie, Meerkats Little Bear and Steve, a Crocodile named Jay-Z, Lady Gaga a salmon pink bird eater spider, a chilli rose spider, and finally a HUGE Monitor Lizard named Boo-Boo!

It was amazing to see these animals so close up, we even got to watch the snake, the Bearded dragons and Jay-Z the crocodile devour some prey.  It was spectacular to witness close up how a snake can dislocate its jaw to swallow its prey whole.  Brooke loved watching the Bearded Dragons chase after their Cricket prey.  Some of the children also had the opportunity to hold the animals.  Big Kudos to the two young girls who had the Scorpion sit on their laps, I’m not so sure I would have been that brave!

Lunch Time

Brooke and myself had worked up an appetite after absorbing all of the wonderful information from Safari Pete.  The spread was delicious and Brooke made sure she found a seat with a Zebra mask, one of her favourite safari animals.

Yellow Zebra Safari’s

During Lunch I had the chance to talk to Julian the founder of Yellow Zebra Safaris and the rest of the team.  Having one of my children in a wheelchair I wondered just how accessible a safari tour might be for us.  As it turns out being in a wheelchair isn’t an immediate barrier to exploring the wonders of a safari.

Picking the right destination, an off road wheelchair and having a can do attitude would mean that I don’t have to remove going on Safari from our family bucket list.  I’m always looking for ways to ensure my son’s life is as inclusive as possible and it was truly refreshing to hear Yellow Zebra Safaris were a company that had the right attitude to finding a way round the many challenges we might face.

Yellow Zebra Safari’s entire team is made of up professional safari guides, camp managers and people born and raised in Africa.  This means from start to finish even at the booking point of a safari you will be getting expert advice.  I also loved that they work with ethical companies who strive to work towards improving conservation and preserving wildlife in the areas that they provide safari’s in.

Meeting The Meerkats

Brooke was very much looking forward to meeting the Meerkats and having them sit on her shoulder.  I’ve got to be honest this surprised me as although Brooke loves to look at animals, her experiences so far of having animals sit on her have involved her pulling a face and trying to get the animal off her.  It turns out the Meerkats were no exception to the rule and once on her shoulder she wasn’t terribly keen.  Cue the tears!

I still opted for a quick photo with a Meerkat whilst I had the chance before calming Brooke back down again.  She says she still loves Meerkats, she just doesn’t want them sitting on her shoulder!

Painting Ceramic Safari Animals

After lunch and our Meerkat drama we had the opportunity to paint a ceramic safari animal of our choice with Ceramic Circle.  After much deliberation Brooke decided to paint a giraffe.  Her chosen colour scheme kept changing but we ended up with a very bright multicoloured giraffe!

My Thoughts On A Family Safari Holiday

We had such a fabulous day with Yellow Zebra Safaris and it really has got me thinking about the benefits that a family safari holiday could bring to the children.  Seeing animals in the wild helps develops a child’s understanding of the natural world.  Too many of our children and even us adults have a disconnect with nature.  As a parent I’d love to ensure that my children grow up with a understanding and respect for the environment not just at home but worldwide. Understanding how to help conserve the environment for further generations is so important.  A family safari holiday would deliver all that whilst also providing wonder and some unforgettable family memories.

Loved reading this post. I have never heard of this company before, I will definitely be taking a look at them. They sound amazing .

I was born in Africa and did a safari when I was 5. Sadly I am too young to remember most of it and my Mum told me I fell asleep through a lot of it and woke up when we reached camp and asked are we there yet?

Now I am a lot older, I will stay awake so I can enjoy it! I hope to go back sometime in the future with my son.

That’s amazing Naina! I think as my children are very young still i would just do a very short Safari to begin with and do longer ones as they get older. Such an amazing experience though to share with your children!

And by the way your daughter is super cute. What a big smile (well, apart from the meerkat!)

I’d never heard of this company either. You can see they know their stuff from the attention to detail in setting up this showcase day. Brooke’s face!! What a picture lol!! Bless her. How exciting getting to meet all those Animals too. I’m defitnely with you there about not being brave enough to have a scorpion sat on my lap! We’d love to go on a safari adventure. Elephants are my favourite animals. We’ve yet to discover what Georgia’s is. I’ll definitely be looking these guys up. Fabulous post Nikki!

Oh i imagine Gerogia would love a safari! I think the scorpion where the scariest thing I saw that day, but I have learnt they will only attack you if you provoke them!
